Forrest Yoga with Kirsty

My intent in teaching Forrest Yoga is to inspire my students to walk freely and lightly on the earth in a healing, beautiful way.

Forrest has been developed over 30 years and specifically addresses physical and emotional stresses and challenges.

The pose sequences are compassionately taught, and they develop skills in awakening each of the senses.

Through my classes, I teach students how to bring aliveness, using breath, into every cell of the body. This ignites a passion for living.

About Kirsty

I started practising hot yoga in 2005 in my home town of Leicester. After moving to Cambridgeshire in 2008 I found Forrest Yoga and have been practising regularly ever since.
In 2019 I started my Forrest Yoga Foundation Teacher Training in Glasgow with Jambo Truong and Charlotte Speller, completing in October 2020.

I fell in love with the physical and emotional practice of Forrest Yoga, feeling the benefits of the healing processes after years of injury. Forrest yoga gives me a sense of freedom in the mind and body, and I have continued to feel healthier and happier every day.  I am excited to share my knowledge of the body and the way that Forrest Yoga can help injuries, can free the mind and body and can bring a deep sense of relaxation as well as awareness and strength.

Why You Should Try Forrest Yoga

As a beginner to Forrest Yoga, you learn to breathe deeply and connect in feeling with your body. As you progress, you get proficient at safely tailoring each pose to work best for you; particularly with physical and emotional injuries. Learning to work honestly at your edges, you develop effective tools to deal with fear, struggle, and breakthroughs.

Forrest Yoga gets you strong and centered by connecting you to your core. It uses heat, vigorous workouts and deep breathing to sweat out toxins.

The long holds in the pose sequences help you flush, oxygenate, and rejuvenate every cell. Forrest Yoga does not require strength or flexibility; it only requires that you bring a willingness to learn how to feel authentically and respond honestly. As you advance in Forrest Yoga, you learn to intelligently ride your breath into the thrilling advanced poses. You also exercise your emotional body through the full feeling spectrum; from the healing process all the way into the ecstatic realms.

The 4 main aspects of Forrest Yoga are: Breath, Strength, Integrity and Spirit. The mission of Forrest Yoga is to create a sense of freedom and the courage to walk in beauty. Forrest Yoga teaches you how to go deeper, find your truth, and then, take these gifts beyond the mat into the rest of your life.

Forrest Yoga honours and celebrates the beauty of life and the power of spirit. It is an inspiring yoga workout that builds flexibility, intelligence and strength while helping deepen the relationship with your authentic self. Accessing your intuition – the voice of your Spirit – builds personal strength and ushers integrity into your daily interactions with all beings. Forrest Yoga challenges you to heal, grow and honour your breath, strength, integrity and spirit.

What My Students Are Saying

I’ve always thought yoga wasn’t for me as not enough of a workout. Kirsty changed my mind! Forrest yoga is a great challenge, relaxing yet testing at the same time. The hour flies by and Kirsty provides excellent guidance and support throughout.

– Victoria

Having taken up yoga during lockdown, yoga with Kirsty has become an essential part of my weekly routine. I run and have had niggling injuries over the last few years but the introduction of yoga has made a huge difference. Kirsty’s style is unfussy and often weaves in requests from members of the class making it a very bespoke approach. I highly recommend Yoga with Kirsty for beginners and experienced practitioners. Kirsty brings a wide variety of poses mixed with the core elements which make every class unique and worth getting out of bed early for!”

– Sarah

“Thank you for your amazing yoga classes, they really are helping me to build strength and correct my poor posture. Even though we can’t practice together in person you have managed to adapt your classes to zoom providing excellent guidance, the introduction of new poses and the chance to practice and build on poses learnt previously. I thoroughly enjoy each and every class. Thank you!”

– Natalie

“I’ve been practising yoga with Kirsty for almost a year now and love her down to earth style. Her classes have a lovely mix of reflective moments, humour and opportunities to challenge yourself. If you’ve never tried yoga and would like to give it a go, I can’t think of a better place to start!”

– Sarah D

“Kirsty has a great style of teaching which is accessible and friendly as well as affordable. She puts a lot of effort into tailoring the class to meet everyone’s needs and takes the time to follow up and check everything is working for you and that you’re feeling comfortable.”

Creating a Safe Yoga Space at Home

I have noted some pointers below for creating a safe yoga space at home. I understand not all of these will be possible, just do what you can!

  • Have at least 2 feet around your yoga mat if possible. I know some of you don’t have yoga mats at home to use, so I suggest you practice on a carpet and maybe put a beach towel down so you don’t slip.
  • Find a level surface to place the mat on.
  • Place your mat away from any obstructions – tables, chairs or sharp edges and ensure that nothing can fall on you.
  • When you step onto your mat, try and leave the outside world behind you.  I know this may be difficult right now, however, this time is for you so try and focus on yourself and the practice.

Yoga Props

During a class, we often use props that help support us in poses and open up the body in different ways.

  1. Yoga Blocks – or a couple of big thick books will be fine.
  2. Yoga Strap – a dressing gown cord or a long sock will also work.
  3. Forrest Yoga Roll – you can make a Forrest Yoga Roll by using an old mat, folded into three lengthways, rolled up tightly and secured with tape or elastic bands. If you don’t have an old mat then you can make one by using a bath towel, folded lengthways so it’s a triple layer and then roll this up – you can hold it together with a piece of material, sellotape or something that won’t dig into you.
